Brian Lichtenberg

Hey everyone, sorry for the delay with this post. So basically the news is that I'm seriously obsessed with  Brain Lichtenberg at the moment. I'm pretty sure that a lot of you will have heard of him but if you haven't then you are totally missing out . He's a designer that makes the most awesome beanies and sweat tops by mimicking brand names. Take a look and you'll see what I mean...

This or That, Beauty Tag!

Hey everyone xx I was asked to take part in an interview type post called 'This or That, Beauty Tag'  a while ago.  I never got around to it but I liked the idea so I have decided to revisit it now. I like doing these kind of posts because behind every wardrobe there is someone with a personality! Here it is...

Makeup

1) Blush or Bronzer?
It has to be blusher. I have quite a pale complexion but I don't try and hide it with bronzer.

2) Eyeliner or Mascara?
Mascara! I love eyeliner for going out but it's not a daily essential.

3) Gel, Liquid or Cream Liner?
Liquid even though it's tricky to put on.

4) Waterproof or Non Waterproof mascara?
Well, waterproof is definitely more practical but I find that it clumps more so I would have to say non waterproof.

3) Foundation or Concealer?
Concealer all the way. Foundation clogs up my skin and and feels heavy on my face.

4) Liquid or Powder Foundation?
Er probably powder. It feels nicer on my skin and reduces shine.

4) Neutral or coloured Eye Shadow?
I would have to say neutral shades. I like experimenting with colour but I prefer to go for a more natural look.

5) Pressed or loose Eye Shadow?
Pressed powder is less messy but I don't really mind to be honest. Either.

6) Matte or Sparkly Eye Shadow?
It depends on the occasion but if I'm going out I like sparkles.Who doesn't love sparkles.

6) Brushes or Sponges?
Brushes (my sponges all fall apart).

7) Lip Gloss or Lipstick?
If I had to choose it would be lipstick but I often put gloss over my lipstick.

8) Lip Balms or Lip Butters?
Lip balm. I have a fanta flavored one.

Nails

1) OPI or China Glaze?
Probably china glaze but colour is the most important thing.

2) Long or Short?
I prefer having long nails but I play the piano so they become irritating and impractical.

3) Acrylic or Natural?
Natural. It's much quicker.

4) Brights or Darks?
I would have to say brights (especially for summer) but I also like a really dark red.

5) Flower or no Flower?
I LOVE nail art but some nail flowers can look really tacky, especially stick on ones. However if it's done well then definitely, go for it.

6) Glitter or no Glitter?
Glitter nail varnish is amazing but it is so difficult to get off so I'm going to say no glitter.

7) Matte or Shiny?
Shiny but I have a pink matte nail varnish from topshop which is amazing.

Body

1) Lotion or Body Butter?
Ermm butter.

2) Perfume or Body Spray?
I prefer perfume (partly because of the pretty bottles) but the hollister body spray is really nice.

3) Body Wash or Soap?
I always lose the soap in the bath so it has to be body wash. I know that's a bad reason but whatever.

4) Lush or other bath company?
The lush shop smells so nice but I also like 'I love cosmetics...' and the body shop.

5) Tan or no Tan?
No tan. I hate it when people overdo it and look like oranges, I don't know why anyone would want to do that to themselves???

Hair

1) Curly or Straight?
I have curly hair and I used to straighten it loads but now I'm embracing the curl!

2) Ponytail or Bun?
It depends on your hair type. I think ponytails look nice on people with straight hair but for me, I love a messy bun.

3)  Hair Grips (bobby pins) or Butterfly Clips?
Definitely hair grips. Butterfly clips are cute but they never keep all of my hair in place.

4) Hairspray or Gel?
I would have to say hairspray, but not very much of it. I find that hairspray makes my hair like cardboard and gel makes it sticky so I prefer just to let it do it's own thing. Clear mascara is great for taming flyaways though, seriously it works.

5) Long or Short?
I think that some people really suit short hair but I love long hair. Like Rapunzel.

6) Blonde or Brunette?
They both look really nice but I've got brown hair so I'm going to have to back the brunettes.

7) Side Swept bangs or Full?
No bangs. I love the whole Zooey Deschanel thing but it dosen't work for everyone.

8) Up or Down?
Down. It suits my face so much more.

Fashion

1) Jeans or sweatpants?
Jeans because they look so much nicer but I am partial to the occasional 'sweatpant day'.

2) Long Sleeve or short?
Short sleeve for a tee but obviously long sleeve shirts.

3) Dresses or Skirts?
I can't believe that I'm being made to chose! Probably dresses even though I don't get much chance to wear them (but I do love skater skirts).
4) Stripes or Plaid/Tartan?
Tartan! I did a post a while ago on how to wear it (click here).

5) Flip Flops or Sandals?
Wedge sandals are my fave (despite the fact that I find it difficult to walk). I do like flip flops but they're not very practical.

6) Necklaces or Bracelets?
Bracelets, especially when you stack them up.

8) Heels or Flats?
I have a soft spot for my battered Converse but when I'm going out I like to wear heels.

10) Jackets or Hoodies?
Jackets! You can wear them for any occasion whereas you can't do that with hoodies. I also like a good Christmas jumper.

Random

1) Rain or Shine?
I love it when the sun shines even though it's a rare occurrence where I live! I don't mind the rain but it messes up my hair and I always forget an umbrella.

2) Summer or Winter?
Christmas is amazing but I would have to say that I prefer Summer just because of the long summer holidays.

3) Fall/Autumn or Spring?
Both! Spring is beautiful and my birthday is in Fall/Autumn.

4) Favourite Ice Cream Flavour?
Mint choc chip all the way. Yum :)

5) Favourite Singer?
This list could go on forever! I love Nina Nesbitt, Taylor Swift, the Arctic Monkeys, Lorde etc. I like a variety of music really.

Can tartan be reinvented?

To be honest, not so long ago, if I saw a tartan skirt in a shop I would run a mile. This was due to the fact that for me tartan is usually associated with middle aged men in kilts. Recently however tartan has been reinvented thanks to many celebs and designers. So (you probably know what's coming next) here's how to wear tartan this autumn/winter.

Tartan is now a key element in grunge style. Be careful to keep your look laid back and it's a good idea to team your outfit with some doc martins or chunky gladiator sandals like these ones.

If you prefer safer styles then go for the 'tie something around your waist' trend. This works amazingly with tartan and is one of the main street styles of 2013.

Why not go for a more preppy look by adding cosy knits, loafers or a peter pan collar.

Or maybe you could find your inner cowgirl and go for a simple tartan shirt.
